The title of this blog is inspired by "The Writer" by Richard Wilbur. I originally read it at Karen Edmisten, almost certainly when she originally posted it back in April of 2007.
I like it because I sympathize with the young lady writer, with her clattering keys. My dad used to tell me that I ought to have been born in the era of typewriters, considering how I abuse the more sensitive computer keyboards.
I also sympathize with the starling, though, to the point where I almost called myself The Starling instead of The Sojourner when I started blogging three years ago. The title of this blog speaks to my role as the lost little bird trying to find the right window. It resonated with me especially now (in 2010) because I feel like God has closed a lot of doors this summer and I'm waiting for the proverbial window to open, so I can stop battering myself to death on the glass.
The title owes something to Theocentrica, who suggested picking a line out of a favorite poem and then helped me decide which line of The Writer was a good blog title. She predicts of this blog: "it'll have something to do with writing, something to do with the spiritual realm, and be slightly reminiscent of some megalomaniac housewife."
